There’s lots to do around Bedale and further afield in the Yorkshire Dales & Moors. We have put together a list of places to visit and things to do during your stay, whether you want a day of thrills at Lightwater Valley, try a beer at the Black Sheep brewery or have a fantasy adventure at Forbidden Corner.
The Wensleydale Railway is an authentic heritage railway serving the local community, offering tourists, families and transport enthusiasts a great value day out in the Yorkshire Dales with lots to see and do along the way.
Thorp Perrow Arboretum & Birds of Prey Centre
Situated just a short drive away from Bedale, Thorp Perrow provides a beautiful day out in picturesque surroundings. It offers something for everyone from beautiful walks, to childrens nature trails. The Bird of Prey centre offers flying demonstarations and informative interactive sessions which will keep the whole family entertained.
Big Sheep Little Cow
A friendly, family run far visitor centre situated in Bedale. The aim is to provide all visitors with a unique hands on farm experience for children and adults alike. There is the fantastic farm tour, the Wooly Jumpers Play Barn and a large out door sandpit play area.
The Forbidden Corner is a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises created in a four acre garden in the heart of Tupgill Park and the Yorkshire Dales. The temple of the underworld, the eye of the needle, a huge pyramid made of translucent glass, paths and passages that lead nowhere, extraordinary statues – at every turn there are decisions to make and tricks to avoid. This is a day out with a difference which will challenge and delight adults and children of all ages. (prior booking is required)
An action packed day out for the whole family. Set in over 175 acres between Ripon and Bedale, Lightwater Valley is known as one of the leading theme parks in the UK. For a more relaxed day out there is Lightwater Village which provides shoppers with a wide variety of shops to browse in.
Black Sheep Brewery & Theakstons Visitor Centres
Situated in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, Black Sheep & Theakstons visitor centres are a must for an all round interesting day out. Providing tours, shops & fantastic bistro’s these breweries are not to be missed when visiting Yorkshire.
A historic Yorkshire Dales market town, with Norman castle, Georgian architecture, cobbled market place, monuments and abbeys, the fast flowing river Swale, and breathtaking scenery. Situated on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, Richmond is a town that inspires painters and poets, past and present.
Kiplin Hall & Gardens
A beautiful day out visiting the historic Kiplin Hall and Gardens. Learn about the heritage of Kiplin Hall whilst walking through the striking Rose Garden and finishing it off with a visit to the Tea Rooms.
Brymor Ice cream Parlour
High Jervaulx Farm is one of Britain’s few genuine on farm manufactures where milk produced only on the farm is used in the production of the ice cream. Our parlour sells over 35 flavours of ice cream and sorbets for cones and sundaes as well as ice cream gateaux’s.
Being in the heart of Yorkshire there are various market towns holding market days throughout the week. With a huge variety of stalls Northallerton, Bedale, Thirsk & Leyburn market days are a lovely day out situated in picturesque towns.
Catterick, Ripon & Thirsk Racecourses
The local racecourses have hosted some of the most exciting, prestigious and enjoyable racing in the country for more than 300 years. They never fail to impress year on year with the outstanding back drops and exciting atmospheres. Well worth a day out!
